What You Need:

  • A stencil of your choice (View our offer here)

  • A sponge or stencil brush (found in our kit)

  • Paint (acrylic or chalk because thicker the paint, the better the results)

  • Masking tape or Spray adhesive

  • Paper towels or a rag

Step by step Guide

Properly clean and degrease the surface. Depending on the texture and cleaning degree of the ceramic, you might need to degrease it, But if you use regular flower pots you are ready to go :)

Secure the stencil to the surface using                 adhesive spray or masking tape.
A. With adhesive spray is easier  because the stencil gets better attached to the surface and paint bleed under the stencil is harder. There is one inconvenience for this method because the adhesive from the stencil is harder to remove after.

B. With masking tape you must pay more attention while stenciling, but if you follow our tips below it will be easy as that.

For this particluar project the challenge was the shape of the flower pot but in the and Ashley did it. Stenciling is easy and affordable :)

Pour a little paint onto a paper plate.
Will surprise you how little paint                        you're going to need! Load the very end of the brush with some paint.

Tap and blot the brush on the plate or a paper towel to remove most of the paint and then apply paint to the stencil. The brush should be almost dry to avoid overloading.

When applying paint to the stencil don’t brush or rub. Just tap. Keep the brush upright and at 90 degrees to the stencil at all times. Cover a little of the area at a time, reload the brush with paint when necessary, and blot off excess paint using the paper towel until you complete the shape.

Pay particular attention to the edges of each special shape/corner in the stencil. If the one corner of the stencil is not attached to the surface don't be afraid to fix it with your other fingers like in the photo above.

Once you've finished painting the                 stencil remove stencil, before the paint dries to avoid peeling. Peel it  back slowly and carefully.

Voila, you are an artist! Easy as that :)

If by any chance bleeding happened it's time for a retouch (works for acrylic and chalk paint). Just take a piece of soft plastic and gently scratch it before paint dries.

Don't forget to clean the stencil, immediately after use, with warm water & soap until all paint is gone. Just let it dry and it's ready for your next project

It's not perfect but it's hand made with zero experience :) We show results how they are!
